When you’re “in the thick of it,” having babies, enduring pregnancies, it feels like it will last forever and you will never forget that (sometimes agonizing) phase in your life, but news flash: it doesn’t and you will (forget many parts of it). I listen to a great podcast about parenthood called "The Longest Shortest Time," and feel like that title sums up the strangeness of how the days can seem endless when they are tough ones, but the years seem to fly by even so, leaving many of us wishing we could have slowed them down. Whether it feels to you like the years are flying right now or not, I guarantee, you’ll look back and be lucky if you can remember your first child’s first words, let alone the thought that ran through your mind when you felt his first kick inside you. Your brain capacity will be taken up with whatever is of utmost importance to your child(ren) at the current moment in time, and you will forget much of what came before. Being a mother requires constantly living in the current moment and leaves less time for reflecting on the past or the future. But sometimes, we want to spend a little time dwelling in the past because some amazing things happened there, like pregnancy and the births of our babies, and their adorable reactions to new siblings and how our family changed and grew and became ever more full of love.
Today, we're going to feature a young family in the thick of the crazy and beautiful years of having a house full of young children. Mom wanted to capture her third and final pregnancy to remember how eager her older two children are to meet the new baby, and how different it feels to welcome a new little one with older children who are mature enough to truly understand what all the excitement is about. When you have that very first baby, it's all about you, your partner and the baby; but when you welcome a second or third (or fourth and beyond...) child, the whole family welcomes the baby. New relationships that will last a lifetime begin. It's a moment in the life of your family well worth documenting, and like all parts of parenthood, quicker to fade and forget that you'd think.
