It’s come to our attention that some people think family photo sessions aren’t fun. We at Timorah Beales Photography (and our sub-brand, Origins Heirloom Artistry) were floored when we heard this -- our clients tell us they have way more fun that they expected! Of course, we get excited thinking about sessions, planning for them, and best of all, working them.
So you’re not on the same page with us? You don’t spend all year looking forward with great excitement to the next time you’ll try to wrestle your kids into their “nice” clothes (i.e, the itchy/scratchy ones), remind the husband for the hundredth time, through gritted teeth, that family photos really are worth the time and effort, and then attempt to make everyone look delighted in front of the camera while also trying to make sure you’re standing at that one angle that highlights your “skinny” side? To be honest, we can fix that.
There are two issues that can make family photo sessions difficult: first, the planning, and second, the session itself. When a busy mother of two came to us recently wanting to schedule a first birthday cake smash session for her littlest, she had a few ideas and a lot of questions. What to wear? One outfit or two (or more!)? Where to get a cake? Should she include the rest of the family in the photos or just the baby? What about clothing for the whole family? Could she get an album? How in the world would she choose the layout? And how much time would all of this take? What if her children (or husband!) weren’t super thrilled with being part of a photo session? With her demanding full-time job and young family, our client felt a bit overwhelmed and uncertain how she would pull it all together.
Want to know a secret? Pulling it all together isn’t our client's job; it’s ours, and we love doing it.
Many of client’s questions and concerns are worked during our pre-session consultation, which is the starting point for each and every Timorah Beales Photography session. Outfits? We already have a selection of adorable items for one year-old babies to wear for first birthday sessions right in the studio and ready to use (but are always happy to work with our little clients’ existing wardrobes). Cake? We provide it, and customize a delicious cake to your specifications. Include the rest of the family? Why not! Our comfortable Yorktown studio allows siblings and parents a cozy spot (treats and wifi included) to hang out while we focus on the littlest family member, so that the whole family is relaxed and ready when it’s time to get the whole group in the picture. Albums? Absolutely! We can create the perfect albums for you and your family members, and it won’t take you any time at all.
During the weeks leading up to the session, the client emailed us photos of outfits and we were able to offer suggestions guiding her towards the choices that would be most flattering and complementary to each family member. We worked together to choose the perfect color scheme, props and cake, and on photo session day, despite the baby cutting teeth causing some grumps, we were able to smoothly work through the session, accomplishing everything the family hoped to achieve.
The truth is, even though the idea of a photo session can sometimes sound less pleasant than a cross country road trip with 2-year-old twins and an angry cat in tow, most of the work involved in a photo session shouldn’t be done by YOU at all, and it shouldn’t be a stressful experience at all. With our team’s knowledge and experience, we take your input and do most of the work. We’ve done this for so many clients that we know just how to assist you during the process, so you can take the time and energy we’ve saved you and focus on your job, deal with your toddler stuffing a whole roll of paper in the toilet, call your mother, or just put your feet up and relax for a minute. Think of it as full-service photography. Think of the beautiful moments we can capture right now, before your children grow up and out of the adorable things they are doing right at this point in time. Because although it may feel like there’s plenty of time to get photos of your family, as the saying goes about life with children, “the days are long, but the years are short,” and the best time for a photo session is always right now.
